March Home Maintenance

March Home Maintenance

Spring is coming! So, whether there is still snow on the ground or tiny buds peeking, one thing is for sure, nice weather is on its way! Welcome the new season with fresh spring cleaning, flowers, and dirt under your fingernails!

Clean Your Gutters

Ensure your gutters are ready to handle spring showers by removing the leaves and pine needles accumulated over the winter. Blocked downspouts and overflowing gutters can damage your sidings and foundations.

Clear The Deck & Clean Up Your Patio Furniture

Remove the leaves and the litter, especially between deck boards, to avert staining and decrease the chance of decay. Also, check the protruding nails to keep your deck safe. If you have outdoor furniture, give them a good scrubbing and replace worn-out pieces before using them this season.

Prepare Your Garden Tools

Before bringing your yard to life, tune up your lawn and garden tools first! Bring your lawn mower and clippers in for a good sharpening and tune-up.

Start Making A Garden Plan

Write down your plans and ideas for this year's garden. You can also check your local botanical gardens for plant sales. A botanical garden is an excellent place to find native plants that go very well in your region. You can also start removing branches and stones and pruning bushes.

Refresh The Entryway

As the weather thaws, start putting away mittens, wools, and winter hats to make room for your mucky spring boots! A clean boot tray with river stones drains water away from your footwear.

Inspect The Roofing

Look closely at your roofing for loose or missing shingles, worn and rusted flashing, and cracked boots around the vent pipes. Safely scan your roof with binoculars while standing firmly on the ground. It would be best if you call in professionals to do the job. Most professional roofing contractors will examine your roof for free but charge for repairs.

Check Your Walkways & Driveways

Winter is tough on concrete and asphalt. The freeze and thaw cycle can break apart stones and concrete. Seal the cracks with a sealant for your driveway or walkway material to prevent further damage. You can hire a handyperson to repair large cracks and holes to save time and money.

Remove Winter Layers

Swap out heavy winter beddings for lighter quilts and coverlets, and change your deep-pile rug into a flat-weave or natural fiber version for the warmer months.

Treat Yourself and Your Home For Spring Blooms!

Spring flowers like Daffodils are plenty and inexpensive this month. So, keep an eye out for bargains! If you have blooms in your garden, why not snip a few to enjoy indoors?

Get Ready For Tax Time

Although the tax-filing deadline is on the 18th of April, getting everything organized this month will make things a lot less stressful. Sort out your paperwork, file, and gather all essential documents in one place, so you are ready to go when the tax filing comes. Tax season begins on the last 23rd of January, and IRS starts accepting and processing individual 2022 tax returns.

Tackling and being on top of home maintenance projects can extend life and improve the quality of your home. They also add value to your home at resale when it is time to move.
